As part of our continuing commitment to feature local talent we are proud to feature for sale the works of local artist David Kenefick. These works can currently be seen in our showroom.
Born and raised on the South Shore, attending art classes as a young person, with a particular passion for the Dutch painters, David attended Mass College of Art receiving a degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts upon completion.
This degree was followed up three years later with post graduate studies and the completion of a Higher Diploma from The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London.
After studies and travel in Europe he started his career in editorial illustration. It was during this period that he also developed a strong interest in the decorative arts. Having initially been interested in surface design - fabric and wall coverings - he was introduced to the field of custom carpeting design where in 1987 he became the in-house designer for the former Tapis International, a carpet showroom in the BDC.
Upon leaving after several years of providing a wide range of designs to the local design communities, he developed his own full service custom carpet line which exists to this day.
For several years now in addition to this business he spends as much of his free time as possible painting.
Flowers as inspiration have long held a strong appeal for him. As ephemeral and diverse as they are beautiful, he finds that their variety of forms and color have been in a totemic way, standard bearers for the world of colors.
His depiction of flowers is based on direct observation with a goal towards a decorative, but botanically correct subject. Rendered in oil, in an oversized scale he has chosen to paint on a variety of textures and shades of grass cloth which he finds particularly flattering as a tactile background for his floral studies.
David has lived on the coast of New Hampshire for several decades now.
